Andrea Butler

she/her

Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)

Andrea provides a non-judgmental respectful space for her clients. Her passion for helping others, coupled with her diversified life experiences, easy approachability, sense of humour, and genuine warmth, encourages, supports, and inspires clients on their journeys to becoming the people they aspire and hope to be, no matter what challenges the person is currently facing.

Andrea takes an eclectic approach to therapy and works collaboratively with her clients to create individualized treatment plans that honour her clients’ needs. She believes that everyone has their own unique personality — that a one-size-fits-all therapy — is not an effective approach. Andrea’s approach is person-centred and draws from psychodynamic, narrative, relational and cognitive behavioural therapy and solution-focused brief therapy. Her personal mandate is to help all people including those experiencing anxiety, grief, depression, substance abuse, fertility issues, caregiver burnout, sexual identity, gender identity, life transitions and family conflicts.

Andrea has spent her life in both a caring and a caregiver role. A camp counsellor, a sports coach, and an elementary and secondary teacher for the past 15 years, Andrea has dedicated her life to helping others. As a secondary teacher, she collaborated with local agencies, parents, and families to provide the support both these individuals and groups required.  A part of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, Andrea has been a leader in Muskoka schools and school boards advocating, making connections, and listening to the concerns and challenges that the 2SLGBTQ+ community faces. She is confident that these experiences and skills are the solid foundation upon which she is able to advocate and support effective and caring counselling and assistance to a broad spectrum of people, all of whom have different needs and life challenges.

Andrea holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Education from Lakehead University. She has successfully completed the academic portion of her Masters in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. As well, Andrea is a registered teacher with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT), a member of Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and is currently practising under supervision as a registering psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO).

When I am not in my professional role as a counsellor and advocate, I spend quality time with my wife, son, and puppy in the beautiful Muskoka area. I do my utmost to live a balanced life, which includes travelling, skiing, coaching, volunteering and continued research and education within the mental health field.
